Erbil, Kurdistan-Iraq, Feb 7, - The Iraqi Red Crescent in Erbil on Tuesday started proving aid relief to people affected by the recent floods.

The floods, caused by heavy rainfall, killed one citizen and led to the collapse of several bridges and many homes rendering their residents homeless in Erbil and surrounding villages.

Nozad Qader Khedr, Head of the Iraqi Red Crescent in Erbil said “From the first day of floods we rushed to provide emergency aid to the citizens whose homes were flooded and we managed to rescue many families since the first moments,”

“Today, we launched another campaign to provide aid relief to the homeless in a number of Erbil neighborhoods and the adjacent villages. We are providing them with heaters, blankets and other stuff after they lost their possessions in the floods,” he added.

On Friday, Erbil witnessed heavy rainfall causing massive damage and flooding that demolished more than 700 houses and three bridges.

Kurdistan provincial government in Erbil decided to compensate those affected in the floods.
