Nesreen Barwari: New grant of $25 million
form the World Bank

Baghdad, Feb 15,
--An Iraqi delegation headed by Nesreen Barwari,
Minister of Municipalities and General Works, got an
additional grant of $25 million from the World Bank
to finish the service projects under construction by
the ministry, an official said on Wednesday.
Barwari is currently visiting Washington to hold
talks with the U.S. and World Bank officials on
grants program to Iraq and ways to enhance joint
cooperation.
The grant agreement was signed on Tuesday evening by
Barwari on the Iraqi side and Joseph Saba, World
Bank Regional Director for the Middle East and North
Africa, Jasem Mohammed Salem, 'media consultant at
the ministry' said.
Barwari met Christian Poterman, Assistant World Bank
Director, and discussed with him the political
process in Iraq after the last elections and efforts
exerted to form a national unity government, Salem
said. |

The Iraqi Minister also met Katrien Speera,
Assistant World Bank Director, to brief her on the
strategy and needs of the ministry for
reconstruction projects in the field of drinking
water and sewage system.
The two sides reached an agreement whereby the World
Bank provides the ministry with technical expertise
and organizes workshops on restoration of water and
sewage systems, Salem said.
Barwari gave a lecture at Woodrow Wilson center for
Peace on building the new Iraq and delivered a
speech at John Hopkins University on the political
situation and challenges in Iraq.
