Erbil,
Kurdistan-Iraq, Feb 15, - A prominent Kurd
official said on Wednesday that a broad-based new
Iraqi government was in the best interest of the
Kurds.
A senior level meeting held in Baghdad on Tuesday
was intended to formulate and officially announce
the positions and demands of the Kurdish coalition
list on the formation of the new government, EzEddin
Brawri, Politburo member of Kurdistan Democratic
Party said.
Baghdad meeting was held between the politburos of
Kurdistan National Union, headed by Jalal -Talabani
President of Iraq, and Kurdistan Democratic Party,
headed by Massoud Barzani President of Iraqi
Kurdistan, Brawri said.
"The (Shiite) coalition is still reluctant to
include the Iraqi list (headed by Iyad Allawi) in
the new government. But the Kurdish side is
insisting (on that)…"
"And it is in the best interest of the Kurds to
insist on the participation of more Iraqi sides in a
broad-based government and especially the
democrats," he added.
Ibrahim el-Jaafari, named to be Iraq’s next Prime
Minister, on Tuesday expected the new cabinet to be
formed within one month.
Brawri also said Omar Fattah was nominated for the
post of vise prime minister in Kurdistan province
and that steps to unify the two Kurdish departments
in Sulaymaniyah and Erbil were expected to start
during the coming days.
