LG Company opens branch in Erbil
The South Korean LG Company has decided to open a
branch in Erbil.
The deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional
Government, Omar Fatah, met with a delegation from
the South Korean Zaitoon Group, the regional
reconstruction team, and the South Korean LG
Company, local media reported.
In an interview, deputy PM Fatah showed his
gratitude to the government of South Korea, which
has not only participated in stabilizing security in
Kurdistan Region, but has also been actively
involved in various reconstruction projects. The
deputy PM promised that the regional government
would continue to seek a better relationship between
both sides for the sake of serving both the Kurdish
and South Korean population.
The delegation described Kurdistan Region as the
secure part of Iraq. "That is why we have decided to
open a branch of the South Korean LG Company in
Erbil, and we also plan to open many other branches
in various parts of Kurdistan Region by the New
Year," the delegation spokesperson said.
Erbil Sports Institute established
The Minister of Education in Kurdistan Regional
Government, Dlshad Abdul-Rahman, opened the Erbil
Sport Institute, reported media in Kurdistan.
Among the attendees at the opening ceremony were the
Erbil governor, general directorate of education,
general directorate of the Region's sport
institutes, and the students of the Erbil Sport
Institute.
Abdul-Rahman said that students would gain
scientific advantages from all the theoretical and
practical sport sessions in order to become
experienced sport teachers in the near future.
This is the first sport institute to be founded in
Erbil, Sulaimaniyah, and Duhok. The institute has
accepted 240 students; 30% are female. Study lasts
five years and students graduate with diploma
certificates.
First international short film festival in Erbil
On December 25-28, under the sponsorship of the
Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government, the
first International Short Film Festival will be
organized in Ebil.
Fifty short films will participate in the festival,
half of them directed in Turkey, Iran, and Europe,
and the other half directed in Kurdistan by the
Cinema Directorate, which belongs to KRG's Ministry
of Culture.
"This is the first time that such a festival has
been organized in Kurdistan. A great number of
guests have been invited from abroad, and there is a
committee to select the movies. The winning movies
will receive valuable prizes such as gold medals and
other prizes," said Jangis Mohammad, who is in
charge of media for festival.
Aside from movies in the Kurdish language, there
will be movies in different languages, and all of
them have English subtitles.
