Five-day training workshop for Ministry of Health
employees in Sulaimaniyah

Development program-Sulaimaniyah office held a
five-day training workshop, entitled "Understanding
and dealing with alcohol and drug usage," for
Ministry of Health employees. The workshop focused
on detecting drug-use symptoms and helping those
addicted seek better treatment.
Steps to isolate the addicted person from drugs were
taught at the workshop, where 45 health department
employees participated, said Banaz Salih, a social
researcher who lectured at the workshop.
Erbil Gas Company back online
Erbil needs 25,000 bottles of gas daily.
Following a week of stoppage in importing liquid gas
to Erbil Gas Company, 175 tons of liquid gas finally
reached the company, enabling it to raise its
production rate to more than 5,000 bottles of gas
daily.
"We are receiving 75 tons of gas daily and we will
distribute them to people. This amount is not
sufficient for Erbil and its suburbs, because Erbil
needs 25,000 bottles of gas daily, but 5,000
definitely can help alleviate the crisis," Bakhtiar
Pishdari, director of Erbil Gas Company said.
Regarding other attempts to import gas, "There was a
trial period to bring gas in from Turkey, but it has
not shown any sign of success yet. For the time
being, the only source of gas is Kirkuk," the
director said.
WHO, UNICEF participate in AIDS seminar in Erbil
The people were from foreign countries and were sent

Members of WHO and UNICEF attended a seminar held by
the Ministry of Health in Erbil. Professors from
Hawler Medical University and a number of physicians
also attended. The seminar focused on mechanisms
that can be used to stop the fast spread of AIDS.
Seven cases of AIDS have been discovered in Erbil.

back.

department offers free tests for people suspected of
having AIDS, offering full secrecy of identity and
address.
Chamchamal's electricity station enters execution
phase
The Jordanian Mash Company will execute the project
at a cost of $700 million.
A Jordanian company has begun construction of a
large electricity station in Chamchamal, located
southeast of Kurdistan Region, local media,
reported.
The Jordanian Mash Company will execute the project
at a cost of $700 million. It is expected to be
complete in one year.
The mayor of the town has stated that 204000 sq/m of
land have been given to the company to build on. The
station will generate 350 megawatts of electricity
and will increase that amount to 750 megawatts by
2008.
Ministry of Education prints education curriculum
outside the region

The government of Kurdistan allocates $8-10
million for printing.
The Minister of Education, Dlshad Abdulrahman, told
the local media that most press houses are not
qualified to print education curriculum in
Kurdistan, and the government of Kurdistan allocates
$8-10 million for printing.
"We have been trying to develop press houses of
education and others in Kurdistan to qualify to
print the curriculum and to end by July of the next
year to distribute them to schools in August," the
Minister said.
"Selling education curriculum in the streets that
has been printed in education press houses is done
through smuggling, and police and security forces
have to put an end to this," Minister Abdulrahman
added. Official letters have addressed the Ministry
of Interior and state Ministry of Internal Affairs
for the same reason, he said.
