DIYARBAKIR,
Turkey-Kurdistan, November 17, -- Turkish forces
killed seven Kurdish militants in clashes in eastern
Turkey security sources said on Friday, more than a month after the rebel PKK declared a unilateral ceasefire, security forces
said on Friday.
One soldier was killed and five wounded in the
eastern province of Tunceli on Friday, and two
soldiers were injured in the neighbouring province
of Bingol late on Thursday, security officials said.
The Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which began its
armed struggle for a Kurdish homeland in 1984,
announced a ceasefire on October 1, saying it would
not carry out attacks but would respond if attacked,
it was rejected by Turkey.
Turkey's army and the government have widely
dismissed the ceasefire and said they will continue
to hunt the guerrillas.
Turkish security forces killed three rebels earlier
in the week.
More than 37,000 lives have been lost in the Kurdish
insurrection which began in 1984 with Kurdish
demands for independence for the southeastern and
heavily Kurdish Anatolia region.
The PKK called off a previous ceasefire in 2004.
