Turkey: PM Erdogan to visit flood-hit
Kurdish southeast next week

Ankara, Turkey,
November 9, -- Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip
Erdogan is set to pay a visit to the mainly Kurdish
southeast of the country, which was struck by huge
floods, on November 17.
Erdogan has postponed his visit, planned to be held
on Wednesday, until Friday next week since former PM
Bulent Ecevit has passed away.
Meanwhile, Ministers of Energy, Education, Health
and Housing arrived in southeastern Turkish province
of
Sirnak to examine and coordinate the aids sent to
the region.
Speaking to local residents in the Ortakoy village
of Silopi district, Education Minister Huseyin Celik
pledged that the government would cover all needs of
the victims of floods. |

Four ministers along with a delegation of lawmakers
will move on to neighboring Batman province, where
12 others lost their lives during the deluge.
Last week, huge and flash floods triggered by
torrential rains that gripped the impoverished
southeastern part of the country claimed the lives
of at least 38 people.

The use of the term "Kurdistan" is vigorously
rejected due to its alleged political implications
by the Republic of Turkey, which does not recognize
the existence of a "Turkish Kurdistan".
Others estimate as many as 40 million Kurds live in
Big Kurdistan (Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Iran, Armenia),
which covers an area as big as France, about half of
all Kurds which estimate to 20 million live in
Turkey.

banned in Iran, Syria, and Turkey where flying it is
a criminal offence"
