Sweden wants to forcefully repatriate 1,200 Kurds,
but (Kurdistan Regional Government) KRG's Ministry
of Interior says it is against sending them back by
force.
In a special interview, Osman Hajji Mahmud, the
Minister of Interior, said, "One-thousand and
two-hundred
Kurdish people in Sweden have documents to stay
there for one year. Others have no documents.
The Swedish government wants to send them all back
to Kurdistan." He added, "On Sunday a delegation
from the Swedish government for refugee affairs,
supervised by Pear Loyin Pearg, visited the Ministry
of Interior, and asked about ideas concerning the
situation. |
 |
The Ministry prefers that Sweden not send the
refugees back by force, and instead send them back
only if they choose to return.
The Swedish government has also been asked to help
them financially and provide them with
accommodations in Kurdistan." Said Mahmud, "There is
no pressure for the Kurds to be sent back yet,
therefore the purpose of the delegation's visit is
only to have a discussion with the regional
government."
