Sectarian Violence Displaces Thousands
(Kuridstani Nwe) Tens of thousands of Iraqi families
from southern and central provinces have fled to
safer parts of the country, like Iraqi Kurdistan.
Their displacement is mostly the consequence of the
wave of sectarian violence, assassinations and
kidnappings that have been spreading across Baghdad
and other unstable provinces.
Abdulsatar Nawroz, a spokesman for the migration and
displacement ministry, said large numbers of
uprooted families were being sheltered by relatives.
He said the ministry was planning to establish
several refugee camps in Mosul, Misan and Ziqar
provinces.

Kurds refuse to add third Turkoman to Article 140
Committee
Kurds refuse to add a third Turcoman member to the
Committee, a Kurdish paper reported last week.
Qadr Aziz, a KRG representative on the Article 140
Committee, which was organized to normalize the
situation in Kirkuk, declared that Kurds refuse to
add a third Turcoman member to the Committee, a
Kurdish paper reported last week.
In a press conference, Aziz said, "Kurds have not
changed their minds concerning adding a third
Turcoman member to the Article 140 Committee, and we
called the Iraqi government to provide an
explanation." He pointed out that the Turcoman Front
has always been against the implementation of
Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution, and said that
adding another Turcoman member will create obstacles
to implementing this article, as well as
create trouble in other areas.
Extensive rain damage in Dohuk province
The quarters of Baroshke, Kani Mahmadke, and Maltain
in Dohuk province experienced extensive damage after
heavy rains, local media reported last week.
There was nearly 25 cm of flooding, and 26 car
accidents were recorded. Rescue teams and emergency
police responded to the affected quarters. After
visiting the areas and surveying the damage, Duhok's
Deputy Governor arranged to release compensation to
the affected families.
