Sources close to the Iraqi government says Norwegian
oil company Det Norske Oljeselskap (DNO) is showing
more flexibility to settle its differences with the
Oil Ministry over its investment projects in
Kurdistan.
In fact, the sources add, the issue is not with DNO
or with other foreign oil companies investing in
Kurdistan autonomous region. It is rather with
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
However, these sources advise DNO not to make any
miscalculation or bet the central government in
Baghdad is weak and cannot oppose the KRG oil
policy.
According to these sources, the Oil Ministry does
not plan at present any legal action against foreign
oil
companies active in Kurdistan. It prefers rather to
wait for the Iraqi Parliament to pass a new oil
investment law.
Note that DNO is investing in Tawke-1 and Tawke-2
oilfields in Zakho in Kurdistan and expects
production to begin in the first quarter of next
