An Arab Girl I Know

As I got back from university today, I had my lunch
which is considered as a typical daily routine for
me and then, I decided to rest for a while ahead of
the kick off of some football matches on TV.
An idea of logging into my MSN for the first time in
months has popped up into my mind since I'm
currently using a Gmail account and seldom do I
check Hotmail for any new messages that I might have
received.
I was going through my contact lists to see who's
online when something really struck me. It was the
daughter of a former Iraqi ambassador who was
assassinated by Arab terrorists in Baghdad more than
a year ago, having the Kurdistani flag as her
display picture.
She is an Arab-Sunni who has lived all her life in
Baghdad before moving to the Arab country in which
she is currently residing in and has never been to
Kurdistan before. I asked her ironically whether she
was the same girl I knew or if a Kurd has hacked her
email account. She replied that it was the same girl
I knew a long time before.
I then raised another question to know the reasons
and motives behind the Kurdistan 's flag and she
said that it was something normal for her to support
the Kurdish people. She added that Kurdistan must
become an independent country and it's unfair for a
nation which its population is estimated as
approximately 40million today to be divided among
four countries, while the Arabs have whatever they
please yet, they are stealing the Kurds land and
have been torturing, oppressing and suppressing them
throughout the past years.
I frankly did not know what to say but I thanked her
from the bottom of my heart for her support and all
the great facts she has mentioned earlier. She
actually forced me to respect her and lookup to her
from now on.
This incident made me realize that no matter how
ignorant and close-minded the majority of Arabs are,
generalization remains an awful characteristic since
one can not group all people of a certain nation or
religious belief under one category.
Even though this nation which brags about being
peaceful, fair and generous were indeed generous
with their efforts of trying to eliminate the
Kurdish nation by using every single weapon
available and possible against our brave nation of
Kurdistan, and tried with the rest of Kurdistan's
occupiers to eradicate our roots, culture and
identity, here we are in South Kurdistan today
hoisting our flag every day in schools while our
children chant the Kurdish national anthem of "Ey
Reqib" during the morning assembly. Moreover,
Kurdistan has become a safe haven for those Arabs
who held prejudice towards us and were once killing
our people and stealing our properties as in the
example of Kirkuk "Dile Kurdistan" and who are still
occupying our land. It also proves what our heroic
legend "Mala Mustafa Barzani" –May God rest his
soul- said once "We are a peaceful nation with
eminent moral values and ethics".
Everything that I mentioned so far had paved the way
for me to talk about a shameful and disgraceful
stands by a minority of Kurds today that also
existed in the past, and they are the "Jash" whom I
personally refer to as a plague.
When some Arabs, Persians and Turks show support and
sympathy towards our noble case, we have those Jash
who do not appreciate what our martyrs have done to
Kurdistan and how they've risked their lives for
several years fighting for our nation's rights and
freedom, nor do they even recognize our flag in
which our martyr Qazi Mohammed was hanged for in our
Republic of Mahabad. Even worse, some of them refuse
to recognize the existence of something called
Kurdistan which was officially used in the 12 th
century by the Seljuk, and it's also being
recognized by the former fascist Arab Ba'ath party
leader Saddam Hussien himself.
Under such unfortunate circumstances, I often prefer
to say that "Ignorant are the enemies of what they
are ignorant of". A phrase that a Northern
Kurdistani friend of mine told me before and I
decided to keep it on mind knowing that I shall
always come across ignorant people in life.
As for the red, white, green and yellow sun in the
middle of the image shown below, it shall remain my
one and only flag until I die whether people like it
or not.
