Recent history has proven itself to be the most
useful and rare moments for Kurds to declare their
independence .The future of Kurdish defense and
independence cannot be relied on few hundred
thousand Peshmerga units; in fact, much more is
needed in today’s needy time. Today we are
surrounded by number of fearless beasts who will not
hesitate to invade Kurdistan at any given time.
We must expand our military divisions far beyond our
today’s limits. We have to show the world that Kurds
are capable of fighting for their independence and
are as capable as the Turkish, Iranian, and Syrian
forces. But how? The first step in our military
expansion is to open up a new military division,
“Kurdistan Airforce,” by all means. Our Peshmergas
(Kurdistan National Guards) have limits when it
comes to fighting; we can’t rely on them for every
source of protection. |

For instance, it’s totally impossible to fight the
Turkish air jets, if they happened to drop heavy
bombardments on Kurds in upcoming future. In order
to counter-attack, we need to apply an equal force
on their side of territory. Turkey has recently made
an agreement with U.S on buying 30 F-16’s and number
of other-different fighting jets; it’s very likely
that they will be used against the Kurds if Kurds
declare their independence.
It’s the duty of Kurdistan Regional Government to
protect the Kurds by purchasing modern weaponry and
self defense tools. If Kurdish politicians are
capable of mastering every aspect of politics, then
they are certainly capable of buying fighting jets
in pretense of fighting terrorism. The second step
in military expansion would be to buy number of
other fighting tools such as: tanks, rocket
propellers, short ranged missiles all in pretense of
fighting terrorism.
These sorts of weaponry will serve in interest of
Kurdistan’s defense and, simultarneouly; send a
strict signal to the neighboring countries on our
military means.. A comparison of the fact could be
seen in the Jewish state of Israel. Israel’s
approximately 4 million Jews have shaken the whole
Arab world, all due to their military expansion.
Same must be done in our part of Kurdistan. If the
Kurdistan Regional Government spends 15-20% of
Kurdistan’s budget for no more than 5 years, on our
military expansion Kurdistan will have the full
capability to declare its independence.
Turkey has made it clear that they will intervene
and invade Kurdistan if they disintegrate their
region from the rest of Iraq. They have also made it
very clear that when U.S troop’s departure, Turkish
troops will move in. We must take these threats
seriously.
Think of the consequence we will suffer if Turkey
does invade Kurdistan: Kirkuk will never be returned
to the Kurds (Sunni Arabs will take it over); Turks
would suppress the Kurds in Kurdistan’s own soil
even worst than Saddam oppressed em; and Turks will
classify Kurds as second citizens (all on our own
soil) and subject the Kurds under their own
influence. We must not wait before Turkish troops,
already on the border, to move into our territories.
We must expand our military to show Turkey that
Turkey will suffer the consequence of her invasion.
With the Democrats win in U.S’s midterm election,
both the House and the Senate, U.S troops will be
pulled out faster than one can imagine. Until then,
we must not wait, we have to expand and improve our
military capabilities as much as we can.
