Kirkuk Security Operation Ends

A major security sweep of the Kirkuk area by Iraqi
army and police in cooperation with Coalition forces
has netted 184 suspected insurgents, including a
number of Syrians and Palestinians.
Nearly 450 AK-47s and other types of machine guns
were seized in the operation. Senior police officer
Colonel Anwar Qadir said among the detainees were
three Ansar Al-Sunna members.

Thirty Dead Mahdi Army Clashes

For the second time in less than two months, there
have been clashes between joint Iraqi and Coalition
forces and the Mahdi Army, belonging to the Shia
cleric, Muqtada Sadir, in Diwaniyyah 181 kilometres
south of Baghdad.
A US army spokesman said 30 terrorists were killed
in the fighting.
A Mahdi Army source said two American vehicles were
destroyed in the confrontation which began when
Iraqi and Coalition forces stormed the home of a
Mahdi Army official Kifah Al-Krety in Al-Jimhuriyah
neighborhood in Diwaniyyah.

Ex-Iraqi Army Employees Get Government Cash

The soldiers' affairs department of the defense
ministry has submitted a request to the council of
ministers and finanice ministry that employees of
the dissovled Iraqi army each receive a Ramadhan Eid
payment of 66 dollars.
Ali Al-Dabbagh, an Iraqi government spokesman, said
that every Iraqi citizen would get seven dollars in
the form of food ration coupons.
The money is expected to be given out before Eid.

New Power Stations In Marsh Lands
(Al-Sabah Al-Jadeed)
The director of electricity distribution in Dhiqar
province said that two power generating stations
have been built in the towns of Hammar and Al-Akeeka
in the marsh areas south of the province.
The two power stations will put an end to the
regular electricity cuts affecting the region which
has a population of 30,000. The project is part of
accelerated reconstruction plans for the marsh
lands.
