Sulaimaniyah,
Kurdistan Region (Iraq), October 16 ,--An American
based company has taken air samples from around the
region to test for possible contamination.
Dara Mohammad, Kurdistan Regional Government
Minister of Environment, told PUK-Media news website
that "an American company took a sample of Kurdistan
air to US for testing in order to ascertain the
level of contamination resulting from the region's
experience of wars and chemical weapon usage."
He further added that they had received an
invitation to visit the US. The Minister also stated
that they would be working closely with the Ministry
of Municipalities on the issue. |

The air pollution is believed to have grown
following the war as the number of factories and
manufacturers in Kurdistan have increased. However,
Kurdistan lacked an Environment ministry until the
formation of the fifth cabinet of the KRG last May.
