New construction expanding Sulaimanyah's suburbs
Dr. Saleh promised to supply specialized teachers
for the new schools. He also decided to open a new
college and an institution in Kalar.
Dr. Idrees H. Saleh, Minister of Higher Education
and Scientific Research, paid a visit to
Sulaimaniyah and its suburbs, including Darbandikhan
town, south of Sulaimaniyah, to oversee the
construction of the technical institute, which will
include new departments for computer sciences and
management, reported the Ministry last week.
Dr. Saleh promised to supply specialized teachers
for the new schools. He also decided to open a new
college and an institution in Kalar, with new
departments for the education college in the area.
He promised to modernize the teaching method, and to
open sessions in the English language and computer
sciences for the students, teachers and the cadres
of higher education in those areas.
Dr. Saleh also visited the construction site in
Halabja of the technical institution, the technical
college and the internal department by a Turkish
ATEN company.
Meantime, Higher education Minister laid the
cornerstone for a residential building for the
Technical institute in Soran town, east of Erbil,
which will include 12 apartments for teachers.
Projects to rebuild Halbja, Shorash in Iraq's
Kurdistan
Iraq's Kurdistan government allocated eight million
dollars to rebuild the Sulaimaniyah cities of Halbja
and Shorash.
"A project with $ 8 million budget was approved by
the Kurdistan government to rebuild the cities of
Halbja and Shorash as they reflect the Kurds
sacrifices in Anfal campaign in late 1980s," the
government adviser for rebuilding and development
affairs, Dara Yara, told the independent news agency
Voices of Iraq (VOI).
The project covers rehabilitating the basic services
in the two cities including roads, sewerage and
water plants, he added.
"Iraq's Kurdistan President launched a campaign to
rebuild the villages affected by the Iraqi army
anti-Kurds Anfal campaign and encouraged residents
back to their homes," the adviser said.
Only recently, 15 houses were constructed and 20
others were rebuilt in Mamjalka village, he added.
Halbja city was a target to the large-scale
operation Anfal by the Iraqi army in late 1980s of
which Saddam and six aides are tried now for killing
180,000 Kurds.
Halbja mayor Fuad Saleh said $ 563,000 were
allocated by the Kurdistan government to rebuild
Halbja memorial after it was set to fire by Kurds
protesters early this year.
New resolution to help employ thousands of new
graduates
Kurdistan Regional Government will create 11,000 job
opportunities for new graduates this year.
Kurdistan Regional Government's Minister of
Education said that a recent resolution by the
government to retire educational employee at the age
of 63, will create 11,000 job opportunities for new
graduates this year.
In a meeting with the regional Parliament Speaker
Adnan Mufti, Minister Dilshad Abdulrahman said that
the resolution followed a thorough study and
research before it was issued on August 30, 2006. He
further elaborated on the new resolution, explaining
how it can contribute to the process of developing
and promoting the status of education and learning
in the Kurdistan region.
The resolution, that allows the retirees to collect
80 percent of their salaries, has generated a number
of complaints and suggestions from educational
supervisors, employees and local teachers.
