Ukraine extends invitation to Kurdistan
government delegation
A delegation from the Kurdistan Parliament and the
KRG were invited to visit Ukraine to discuss
political and trade relationships.
Kemal Kerkuki, Deputy to the Parliament Speaker,
received Mr. Abdul Wahab Darwish, the official
convey of Ukraine government, and the
Kurdish-Ukraine Friendship Association.
The Ukraine conveys praised the huge construction
boom in Kurdistan, and officially invited a
delegation from the Kurdistan Parliament and KRG to
meet with Ukraine Parliament. The Deputy spoke about
the Investment Law and expressed his wishes that all
foreign investors benefit from it.
The investment law recently ratified by Kurdistan
Parliament offers considerable privileges to foreign
investors such as tax-holiday for ten years and
owning land for their projects.
Kurdistan MPs again request diplomatic passports
Kurdistan MP passports, sent from Baghdad, turned
out to be service passports and not diplomatic
passports.
"Those passports are rejected by Kurdistan MPs
because we asked for diplomatic passports," said
Arez Abdullah, Kurdistan MP. Service passports are
normal passports and anyone can easily retain one.
"It has been one year of waiting to get the
passports, and now they only sent a number of them,
not all. And they are all normal passports, which
needed no delay," Arez added.
Kurdish parliamentarians had asked the Iraqi
government in the past to issue diplomatic passports
for them, as it had issued for parliamentarians in
Baghdad.
Arez thinks that the foreign ministry is carrying
out a remarkable distinction between the Iraqi
Parliament and the Kurdistan Parliament.
Sulaimaniyah to build camp for Arab refugees
Sulaimaniyah's City Council has given its approval
to build a camp for Arab refuges from the southern
and central parts of the country, to be paid for by
the Iraqi government.
"We have requested a piece of land within
Sulaimaniyah province, to be divided into two parts:
One will be built as a labor yard, and the other
will be a facility for the Arab brothers to rest,"
said Dana Majeed, Sulaimaniyah's Governor.
"We have plans, in cooperation with Red Crescent,
Red Cross, and other humanitarian organizations, to
build a camp in Darabndi Basarash, near Sulaimaniya,
for Arab families fleeing the violence in the middle
and south of Iraq," the Governor added.
Remains of Anfal victims to be brought home
The mass grave in Hazzar, south of Mosul, included
remains of around 60,000 to 70,000 Kurds, including
men, women, and children, according to the source.
Requesting anonymity, a source from the committee
responsible for Anfal Victims Affairs said that the
presidency of the Kurdistan Region has requested the
formation of a special committee to bring the
remains of Anfal victims home to Kurdistan to be
given a proper and decent burial.
The mass grave in Hazzar, south of Mosul, included
remains of around 60,000 to 70,000 Kurds, including
men, women, and children, according to the source.
Most of the victims are said to be from Garmian and
Dukan regions in the northern Sulaimaniyah province,
as per the identification documents found with the
bodies.
The source also added that forensic examinations
have been conducted on 150 bodies, and in one case
the body of an expectant mother with an 8-month-old
infant has been identified. The results of the
examinations are to be used against Saddam Hussein
and his associates currently on trial for the Anfal
campaign.
Following the US-led 2003 war on Iraq and the ouster
of the former Iraqi regime, Kurdistan government has
continued its efforts to locate mass graves and
rebury them at home in Kurdistan.
First conference of higher education wraps up
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific
Research in the Kurdistan Region wrapped up it's
first-ever conference on higher education.
The aim of the conference, which was entitled
"Toward a Contemporary Education System," was to
determine what language should be used in
universities and institutes, and whether education
should be conducted annually or by semesters.
Dr. Idris Hadi, Kurdistan's Minister of Higher
Education, met with presidents and deans of
universities of the region, presidents of technical
schools, and boards and deans of institutes during
the two day conference.
"Representatives of universities and institutes have
met in order to decide the education system of the
current year. We will hold an international
conference next near and we will invite
international university professors," said Dr. Hadi,
Participants also discussed the lack of scientific
resources in Kurdish universities and how experts
may assist the region's progression in that
capacity.
Bazyan district to get large fuel depot
The General Board of Special Projects Directorate is
to distribute 700,000 barrels of kerosene in
Sulaimaniyah and its districts and sub districts.
Each family will be charged 22,000 ID for 220 liters,
and each driver will receive 50 liters of benzene
per week.
"Thanks to the efforts of President Talabani, the
KRG, the Iraqi government and the Oil Ministry, we
were able to receive oil from Kirkuk after making it
possible to reach there from Bieji," said the Deputy
Director of the Board, Rashid Khoshnaw.
Khoshnaw said special guards were recruited to
protect the drivers of the tankers that transport
oil from the Beiji to Kirkuk, and to keep them safe
from terrorists.
The Kurdistan region, all three governorates, needs
1, 5 million liter of fuel ( benzene, kerosene, gas
oil and LPG). As is, 1,800 cube meters of fuel is
transported to Kurdistan, which makes 35 percent of
the demanded share, said Khoshnaw.
The Iraqi Oil Ministry, in cooperation with Special
Projects, is planning to build a huge fuel depot in
Bazyan district west of Sulaimaniya, which is
estimated to contain 83 million liters of fuel,
added Khoshnaw. "Only five tankers of LPG enter
Kurdistan from Turkey while we get the rest from
Iran, through the Munthiria border control point and
Kirkuk," he added.
