Saddam's picture appears on school
textbooks in Sulaimaniyah

Sulaimaniyah,
Kurdistan Region (Iraq) October 1, -- Kurdish high
school students said on Saturday they received
textbooks with Saddam’s picture on a front page from
their schools in Sulaimaniyah city.
“I received five textbooks in which Saddam’s picture
appeared on a front page,” a Rizgari preparatory
school student said.
The Sulaimaniyah education department ordered a
committee to probe into the incident.
“This seems so strange as we made new prints
removing Saddam’s picture from the school
textbooks,” Sulaimaniyah education department
director Sheikh Hussein Mostafa said.
A committee will be set up to probe into the
incident and will ban, if any, distributing such
textbooks to students, he said.
The former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein is tried
for committing crimes against humanity in the
Kurdish areas where more than 180,000 Kurds were
killed in al-Anfal (Arabic word for war spoils)
campaign in 1988.
