Turkumani Akha'a Party supports Article 140 in the Iraqi constitution 25.10.2006

Kirkuk, Kurdistan-Iraq, October 25,-- Turkumani Akha'a Party expressed support for the execution of Article 140 in the permanent Iraqi constitution

In a conference in the city of Kirkuk, the Turkumani Akha'a Party expressed support for the execution of Article 140 in the permanent Iraqi constitution, which is related to the normalization of Kirkuk's situation, local media reported last week.

"We stressed our support for the execution of Article 140 in order to become a message for those who stand against its execution," said Waleed Sharika, Secretary General of the Party, who was attempting to explain the main aim of the conference.

The Governor of Kirkuk governorate, representatives of the two main Kurdish parties of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and a number of poets and writers from various ethnic backgrounds read articles in their own language stressing the positive implications of the meeting on the future of their city.

The former Iraqi president forced about 250,000 Kurdish residents to give up their homes to Arabs in the 1970s, to "Arabize" the city and the region's oil industry.

Kirkuk city is not under the full control of Kurdistan Regional Government administration. A referendum is to be held in late 2007 to decide whether the oil-rich Kurdish province should be annexed to the safe semiautonomous Kurdistan region in Iraq's north.
