Kirkuk,
Kurdistan-Iraq, October 24, -- An Iraqi soldier was
killed and six people were wounded on Tuesday in
three bomb blasts in the central of Kirkuk city, a
security source said.
“An explosive charge went off at an Iraqi army
vehicle patrol in central Kirkuk killing a soldier
and wounding another,” police captain Abbas Mohammed
said.
The explosion damaged an army vehicle, he added.
“Another explosive charge was detonated near al-Quria
police station in central Kirkuk wounding a
policeman and two children who were standing by,”
the source said.
A third explosive charge was simultaneously
detonated after police patrols rushed to the
explosion location near al-Quria police station
wounding two policemen, he added.
The former Iraqi president forced about 250,000
Kurdish residents to give up their homes to Arabs in
the 1970s,
to "Arabize" the city and the region's oil industry.
Kirkuk city is not under the full control of
Kurdistan Regional Government administration. A
referendum is to be held in late 2007 to decide
whether the oil-rich Kurdish province should be
annexed to the safe semiautonomous Kurdistan region
in Iraq's north.
