Barzani orders investigating on collaborators with former Saddam regime 2.10.2006

Erbil, Kurdistan Region (Iraq), October 1, -- The president of the Kurdistan autonomous region (KRG), Massoud Barzani decided to form a committee to investigate Kurds who collaborated with the former Iraqi regime's intelligence.

Head of Kurdistan's Presidency Diwan Fuad Hussain said the committee will be formed Sunday to review the cases of spies whose names were published according to Barzani's orders.

He said he was assigned to hold the responsibility of forming an investigation council headed by an independent judge, with coordination with the cabinet and Iraqi Kurdistan National Assembly.

Meanwhile, a number of civil societies and members of parliament called the parliament's presidency to investigate in the lists of names published under the title "collaborator" with the previous Iraqi regime.

In releases, they demanded holding an extra-ordinary session to discuss the issue.

The publication of the lists synchronizes with calls to prosecute Kurds who participated in the Anfal massacres, in which around 100,000 Kurds were killed and hundreds of villages destroyed in 1988.
