BAGHDAD, Iraq,
October 7, -- The US promised Saturday to apprehend
and punish the killers of the Kurdish Iraqi
parliament member assassinated on Thursday.
US Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad said, in a
joint press release with the commander of
Multinational Force (MNF) in Iraq George W. Casey,
the US mission and the MNF condemn the assassination
of Kurdish Alliance MP Muhammad Ridha Muhammad and
his driver.
He promised to work with the Iraqi government to
capture the killers and bring them to justice under
Iraqi law.
"The terrorists who carried out this attack are the
enemies of the Iraqi people, desperate to derail the
progress Iraq is making toward freedom and
prosperity.
Although they killed Mr. Mahmoud, they cannot kill
the vision he shared with the Iraqi people of a
stable, secure, and unified Iraq," he said. The
terrible act will not stop the efforts of the
parliament in building a safe country for all
Iraqis, he stressed.
Muhammad was shot dead by unidentified militants two
days ago in Al-Aathamiya in Baghdad.
