Turkey: PKK leader says Turkey wants to destroy him 21.1.2006
By Vladimir van Wilgenburg, Journalist - Netherlands

According to the PKK affiliated website Kurdishinfo, the life of the PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan is in danger. Several demonstrations were held in several countries, including the Netherlands. PKK supporters demonstrate, because they fear of Öcalan's health conditions, so they say.

The lawyer of said that Öcalan is under immense pressure and is strained to death; like suicide.

According to Öcalan the Turkish Government will be responsible, not him, if there will be a death." Ocalan said he was punished, because they [Turkish government] think he stimulated people to rebellion and gave instructions to the PKK. But he said:"I didn't provoke the people, I didn't give instructions to the organisation, I only defend the education in mother-language [Kurdish]".

Kurdish rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan- Kurdistan-Turkey.

Öcalan said he thinks education in mother-language is the basic right of the people and this isn't a crime. This right is in all international agreements. " But despite my good will, they give this punishment to me".

He also accused the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Deniz Baykal (long-time leader of Turkish CHP party) of working together. "THEY WANT TO SILENCE ME, DESPITE I HAVE BEEN IN PRISON JUST FOR PEACE. THEY WANT TO DESTROY ME".

Öcalan expects a new punishment of 3 months because of this interview. "They want to batter me in psychological way. Except this, during this time, all my communication with external world had been cut off. And my health situation became heavier".

The political game between the PKK and the Turkish government continues!

And therefore I have some questions for Kurds and Turks:

One might wonder, how this leader, who supposed to be isolated in prison and says that his communication with the "external world is cut off", can have an one hour interview with his lawyer in prison in which he can express his views and have contact with the outside world (through his lawyer)? If he really was in isolation, then he couldn't speak to no one!

I must agree with his words about education, but I don’t think the Turkish government punished him, for talking about language. What do you think? Off course, because he is the PKK leader, they would punish him for everything.

Öcalan is suggesting, that if he suddenly dies, it’s the fault of the Turkish government and they would face the consequences for this. What kind of consequences he meant? Maybe a punishment of the EU or like Murat Karayilan earlier said, otherwise the PKK would put Ankara in flames? Isn’t this a sort of instruction for the Kurds and the PKK? "Help! I am danger! Demonstrate?"

Öcalan also showed his opposition towards the AKP party. According to the Dutch politician Joost Lagendijk, the opposition of the Kurds towards the AKP is one of the biggest mistakes of the Kurds. He thinks Kurds must support the AKP party, because it’s the “road to democracy” (He thinks they are the most democratic party in Turkey). This maybe is one of the reasons, that PKK is having harsh words towards the AKP, because Kurds otherwise supports them? Or is it, because the PKK wants the AKP to get more support from the Turkish people, because the Turks will support any party, that receives opposition from those so-called “terrorists”. [In Turkish eyes PKK are terrorists, a lot of Kurds see them as freedom fighters. Good Kurds and Bad Kurds?].

And one other important question: Why Kurds would not demonstrate for Kurdish rights and their cause in North Kurdistan (Eastern Turkey)  rather than for freedom of Abdullah Öcalan? Öcalan himself he said he was supporting "education in mother language". Why not demonstrate for that? Do you think, if you demonstrate for Öcalan.. he will be freed? Do you think if you demonstrate for Öcalan you get more rights? Do you think he won't get punishments, if you demonstrate for him?

I am not taking sides [PKK or Turkish government], but I am just curious about what people think. And I hope my readers or other bloggers will give me a response or just simply think about this questions and information.
