Kurdistan-Turkey: An operation while tied
with cuffs!

ADANA Jan 10 (DIHA) - it was stated the PKK
prisoner, Mr. Yahya Figan, who protested the
bringing of The Kurdish leader Mr. Abdullah Ocalan
to Turkey by setting himself on fire, had an
operation while being tied with cuffs to the bed. A
long time has passed since the operation, but the
father, Mr. Nezir Figan, stated that they didn't
control his health so far; "though one month has
passed since the operation, his wound are not
dressed yet.
When I saw him in this situation, I got depressed,
and that view never left my mind since."
Mr. Yahya Figan was arrested after the PKK lawsuit.
He was taken to the Ümraniye prison, but on 14 Feb.
1999, in order to protest the bringing of Mr.
Abdullah Ocalan to Turkey, he set himself on fire
along with five of his friends. After being
transferred to the hospital immediately for being
heavily wounded, and since a big part of his body
was burnt, he's still being treated.
He was then transferred to Malatya E Type prison 4
years before, and in order to continue his
treatment, he was again transferred to Adana
Kürkçüler prison. |

In order to incur a skin operation, he was taken to
the Numune Hospital. The father, Mr. Nezir Figan,
stated that his son had the operation while being
tied to the bed; "my son burnt himself in protest in
the Ümraniye prison, a big part of his body is
burnt. One month earlier, he was transferred from
Malatya to Adana's prison to have the operation.
While having the operation in the Numune Hospital,
he told me that he was tied to the bed with cuffs,
and that he was put back into prison directly after
the operation."
Put in prison directly after the operation
The father, who came from Diyarbakir to Adana,
wanted to see his son in a normal visit, but could
only see his son for 10 minutes, though on that day
they're supposed to have longer visits, and
explained that his son is still in a single prison
in the Adana Kürkçüler prison.
He also said that they didn't take care of his son
after the operation; "though it's not right to put a
person in prison directly after the operation, they
do it arbitrarily. Besides, though 1 month has
passed since the operation, his wounds are not
dressed yet. When I saw him in that state, I got
depressed, and his view never leaves my mind. To
save my son from these circumstances, I will apply
to all the governmental and civil organizations."
Said the father.
