(KURDNET), - Texas Secretary of State, Mr. Roger
Williams, praises the Kurdish march toward freedom,
democracy, and stability.
A large gathering of the Kurdish-Americans in Texas
took place in Dallas on January 8, 2006. The
meeting’s purpose was to honor Mr. Roger Williams,
the Secretary of State of Texas, and to support
Kurdish people’s march toward freedom, democracy,
and equality.
The meeting was attended by large segments of
Kurdish-American and some American personalities in
North Texas area. Among the American dignitaries
present in this Kurdish-American occasion, were Mrs
Margaret Keliher, Dallas County Judge, Mr. John
Payton, Dallas City Judge, Mrs. Linda Kppl, City
Council Member of Dallas, Congressman Pete Session’s
representative, as well as long-time friends of
Kurds Mr. & Mrs. Bob Dixon.
On behalf of the Kurdish community, Dr. Mohammed
Zibari welcomed the secretary Williams and other
distinguished guests. Mr. Zibari reaffirmed
Kurdish-Americans’ appreciation for friends like the
honorable secretary of state of the great state of
Texas.
Mr. Zewer Almissouri read the Kurdish community’s
address to this gathering of Kurds and their
friends. He pointed that with Americans protecting
the Kurds the old Kurdish saying that” Kurds have no
friends” is now null & void. Americans are friends
of Kurds and the Kurdish people are solid and loyal
America’s allies.
Then Mr. Williams gave a speech that was full of
praise of Kurds and Kurdistan. He said America
appreciated that Kurdish support for America’s
effort of rooting out terror in Iraq and said Kurds
are America’ allies. Kurdish area, he continued, is
an island of stability thanks to the efforts of
Kurds and their Peshmergas.
The meeting concluded with Texas Secretary of
state’s waving of Kurdish flag and the cheering of
the Kurdish audience for that noble gesture . The
North Texas Kurdish gathering was a solid step of
public relations victory for Kurds and the sacred
cause of Kurdistan.
