Iraq's Minister of
Municipalities and Public Works Nasreen Berwari
escaped an assassination attempt, national
broadcaster al-Iraqiya reported Tuesday.
The state-run channel said a roadside bomb went off
while Berwari's convoy was passing near the township
of Sulayman Beg, north-east of Baghdad.
Quoting a ministry source, al-Iraqiya said Berwari
escaped the explosion unharmed, but one of the
convoy's vehicles sustained damage. The minister was
on her way from Sulaimaniyah city, the capital of
the Kurdish regional government, to Baghdad when the
incident took place.
Berwari has remained in the ministerial post for
three successive terms, starting with the
transitional government, passing through the
government of Iyad Allawi and then the cabinet of
Ibrahim al-Jaafari. |
