Jan 26, - On the
occasion of his diplomatic trip to Europe Dr. Dindar
Zebari Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)
Coordinator to the United Nations affairs visited
Paris and received by Foreign Affairs Ministry
officials, Mr. Christopher Guilhou Counsellor at the
Minister Cabinet, Mr. Nicolas Kassianides Chief of
Political Affairs of the South Direction as well as
officials from the UN and other International
Organisations Departments at the Ministry of foreign
Affairs.
During the meeting two sides highlighted the
permanent constitution in place gives Kurdistan’s
people the recognition and powers they and their
leaders have sought.
They now have a self-governed federal region as a
consequence of peacefully negotiated agreements with
their federal partners with the help of United
Nations and World Community support and approval.
KRG Coordinator further more stressed the need of
his region for continues support by the Security
Council members such as France at this stage to
readdress the recovery and the reconstruction
efforts in the post-Saddam era.

Cooperation Organization
UNESCO Headquarter in Paris
The KRG Coordinator to UN, Dr. Dindar Zebari and the
UNESCO Assistant Director General for External
Relations and Cooperation Mr. Yousser Mrad discussed
how to strengthen cooperation in the fields of
culture: Archaeological sites; museums; libraries
and archives; cultural institutions; historical
buildings. H. Exc. Muhyi K. Alkhateeb, Ambassador
Permanent Delegate of Iraq to UNESCO has also
attended the meeting.
Assistant Director General presented an overview on
recent UNESCO-support in relation to protection and
rehabilitation of cultural heritage in Iraq. In the
area of culture, the efforts already engaged in by
the Organization will be continued and UNESCO will
contribute to efforts aimed at raising the awareness
of donors in respect of emergency actions, the
identification of which have been the result of
UNESCO’s missions on the ground.
During his visit, Dr. Zebari KRG Coordinator
discussed the need to include Kurdistan region’s
cultural heritage protection issues in the above
review in the country.
However UNESCO officials noted the organization will
assist the Federal government including KRG in its
efforts to create an educational framework in the
fields of cultural heritage management and
conservation.
The Assistant Director General expressed his wish to
establish an office in Erbil to work together with
the UN to assist the region in transition to
democracy and freedom of expression.
