We (Kurds) were
incredibly pleased to hear, that the time has
arrived to make a movie about one of the great
symbols of our nation.
A man who devoted his life and the life of his
family to the struggle and pain of his nation. A
man, with all the difficulties of his time, enforced
respect from his enemies and from leaders of
powerful nations.
A true Kurd, and a charismatic leader who embodied
the many virtues of our tolerant culture. A man who
was led by his true nature and not by circumstances
or others ‘paradigm. A man who never let any enemy
come in between Kurds, to ignite feuds. A true
messiah of Kurdish resistance movement against the
enemy of Kurdistan.
I ,as young Kurd, was really thinking from a long
time ago of the idea of such a movie. But was always
very troubled by the idea. A movie of such a hero ,
must not be limited by resources. Besides it must
have a well-thought script and a renowned crew.
The choice of using the Egyptian director Ali
Bederkhan, and the possible starring role given to
Omar Sharif (With all respect to your choice and the
reputation of the director/actor), made me really
feel saddened and angry at the same time. Nowadays
the Egyptian cinema is very backward , and incapable
of making movies ,with such an important content, a
success.
I can not believe or even admit to the idea that it
lies on the available resources for making this
choice. Better delay making the movie and start a
fund that can be filled in a span of time to make a
better choice, A better movie with a Hollywood cast
and in English. It is not only the story of a man
but also a history of a nation. We want the world to
know about our nation and not only the Kurdish and
Middle Eastern public.

Hollywood is packed with very good directors who are
also idealistic and not only commercially-minded
ones. For instance recruiting “Ridley Scott”
director of “Kingdom of heaven” , “gladiator” and
many others in his level of directing. And using the
charismatic actor “Al Pacino” for the role of Malla
Mustafa. For the score Hans Zimmerman who is an
authority on that area or Ennio Morricone. A Movie
with such a crew will be a box office hit before it
even goes to the screens.
Another aspect of the movie which should be very
carefully considered, is the political side of the
story. The movie must not become politically correct
to our neighbour countries, and make no
consideration or any reservations on that issue.
Mala Mustafa fought the armies of three countries.
So please do not hide facts because of political
correctness. And one very important fact to be
showed, is the dark role of Henry Kissinger, who
backstabbed the Kurdish revolution in 1975.
I wish you ,and the wisdom of your family, to
consider my humble suggestion and do not do unjust
to the story of an important icon of our nation.
