Iraqi new government shaped
behind closed doors
Erbil, Kurdistan-Iraq, 27 Jan. (AKI) - Next
week's visit by the president of Iraq's Kurdistan
region Massoud Barzani to Baghdad will signal that
consultations to form the country's new government
have begun in earnest.
Barzani and the leaders of the main coalition groups
that took part in December's elections will hold
talks to forge what will be a "government of
national unity in which all the components of Iraqi
society will be represented," the leader of the
Kurdish Alliance, Sami al-Shabak said Friday.
Sources close to the leadership of the main
coalitions have indicated that the future government
might look like this: |

Kurd, is expected to be nominated as president,
while his two deputy-presidents are expected to be
Arabs, one a Shiite, the other a Sunni.

transitional premier Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Adel Abd
al-Mahdi and Nadim al-Jabri - all members of the
largest coaltion, the Shiite Union.
Current planning minister, Barham Salih and the
leader of the non-sectarian National Diagolue Front,
Salih al-Mutlaq are widely tipped to fill the two
deputy prime minister posts.
Iyad al-Samarrai, secretary general of the Islamic
Party, is seen as a strong contender for the postion
of Parliamentary speaker, while the two deputy
