80,000 Kurds in Hakkari followed martyred HPG
guerrilla to his last rest
Newsdesk, Sep 10
- On September 9, in a power demonstration by the
Kurdish people, 80,000 people defied threats from
local Turkish police and military forces and joined
the burial procession of a martyred HPG guerrilla in
the city of Yuksekova in the Hakkari province of
northern Kurdistan (southeastern Turkey).
The body of HPG martyr Ayhan Seven was welcomed by
30,000 Kurds and during the 3 kilometers march to
the cemetery another 50,000 people joined the
procession. Slogans in favour of the Kurdish
national leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Kurdish HPG
guerrillas were chanted by the procession. Slogans
protesting the Turkish and the Iranian state were
also chanted.
Turkish soldiers and police tried to stop the
procession but were pulled back by Turkish
authorities who feared a massive riot. On the way to
the cemetery, irritated Kurds stoned homes belonging
to paramilitary Village Guards and a bus belonging
to the Iranian state was demolished.
DEHAP province chairman Sabahattin Suvagci who held
a speech after the burial said that after the
Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan's reconciliation speech in
Diyarbakir (Amed), Turkish nationalists had 'pushed
the button' provoking people and encouraging killing
of Kurds. Suvagci said that such actions can never
be a solution.
HPG guerrillas Ayhan Seven of Yuksekova and Ziver
Demirbag of Nuseybin were martyred on September 4 in
clashes with Turkish soldiers in the Dersim
province.
