DIYARBAKIR (DIHA) 29.Sept - The preparations for
the 'Democratic Resolution of the Kurdish problem
and 'Yes' to EU' meeting to be held on Oct. 2 in the
Kurdish populated southeastern province Diyarbakır
continue. The mayor of Baglar County Yurdusev
Ozsokmenler and that of Kayapınar Zulkuf Karatekin
stated that the meeting is important for the Kurdish
people to speak out their demands and called them to
participate to the meeting.
The meeting entitled as 'Democratic Resolution of
the Kurdish problem and 'Yes' to EU' is being
organized by the nongovernmental organizations and
democratic mass organizations in Diyarbakır, which
is considered to be the political center among the
Kurds. The mayors Yurdusev Özsökmenler and Zülküf
Karatekin told that they will attend the meeting.
Indicating that Turkey will turn an important
threshold on Oct. 2, Mrs. Özsökmenler said the
meeting will be a chance for the Kurds to put their
demands before the accession talks with EU.
Powerful meeting
"The Kurds have contributed enormously to the
process covered so far. The Kurds had held a meeting
before December 17as well when EU decided to start
accession talks on Oct. 3, and demonstrated their
support for the membership. This meeting will serve
to show the standpoint of the Kurds on EU. With a
powerful meeting, the demands will be pronounced
more influentially. We will take our places in the
meeting as the municipalities of Diyarbakır." said
she.
Concrete steps to resolve the problem
Mentioning to the process after the accession talks,
the mayor Özsökmenler said: "The Turkish PM Erdogan
visited Diyarbakır and pointed out that the Kurdish
problem is his problem. The public wants the prime
minister claiming the Kurdish problem to keep his
promise. They are waiting concrete steps to resolve
the problem in the process after the accession talks
which will begin on Oct.3."
The parting of the ways
The mayor of Kayapınar County Zülküf Karatekin drew
the attention to the critical period undergone and
emphasized the importance of the meeting for the
Diyarbakır dwellers and the people in the eastern
and southeastern regions mostly populated by the
Kurds. Attaching Turkey's taking her place among the
modern states to regulating her laws according to
the EU, Mr. Karatekin said: "A democratic process
should be launched in the proper sense. As municipal
administrations we have always given our supports to
the membership. Now, Turkey is at the parting of the
ways. The authorities should show common sense. Both
the government authorities and the citizens should
fulfill their tasks. The attitude of the dwellers of
Diyarbakır will be very important. The recent
provocations disturbed us. Some circles try to show
the Kurds as if they were against the membership. As
a response to that, the people of Diyarbakır should
demonstrate their attitude in this meeting."
Calling the people to the meeting he said he is sure
that dwellers of Kayapınar will participate to the
meeting as they did in the meetings before.
