123 people die in the last 3 months in East and Southeast Turkey 15.9.2005

DIYARBAKIR 14.Sep.(DIHA) - Human Rights Association (IHD) released a report concerning the results of the clashes in the last three months. As to the report, 123 people lost their lives in the last 3 months in East and Southeast Anatolia Regions, 118 people injured and 959 human right violence were experienced.

The chairman of Diyarbakir Human Rights Association Selahattin Demirtaş said the social peace should be maintained immediately otherwise the country will undergo a chaos.

The report was revealed by the Region representative of the association Mehdi Perinçek and the Branch chairman of IHD Selahatin Demirtaş in the building of the association in Diyarbakir. Demirtaş said due to clashes started in June the number of human right violence increased considerably. The more the clashes continue, the more the intervention to the meeting, demonstration, organization rights and freedom of speech are experienced, said Demirtaş. He also expressed that the torture practices increased and the returns to the villages stopped as the clashes started again and the economy of the region was influenced adversely from the clashes.

'Militarist speeches instead of peaceful remarks'
The clashes paralyzing the communal life results from the peaceful dialogs' not being used in the resolution of the Kurdish problem, said Demirtaş.

Those ruling the country do militarist speeches instead of peaceful remarks. They do not dare using the language of the public but dare to open a case for a executive like the mayor of Diyarbakir Metropolitan Municipality who is trying to serve to the peace with his brave remarks and applications." said he.

The inquiry should be back out'

Demanding the inquiry opened against the mayor Osman Baydemir to be back out, Demirtaş said: "We think the remarks of the government saying 'The Kurdish problem exists and we will resolve the problem with more democratization. We are ready to listen to everybody having a say about the problem' as a contradiction as the oppression towards the public who has their own sayings about the problem. The government should leave these practices immediately and give ear to the elected representatives of the public."

He also said the remarks of the PM Erdogan regarding the Kurdish problem were not clear. A problem close related to the Kurds can not be solved without consulting the Kurds themselves, said Demirtaş. Calling everybody to use the language of peace, he added: "While the communal activities breaking up all over the country are turning into an ethnic conflict, the government and all the other people should pay attention to use the language of peace and brotherhood. In the process in which racist attacks were done and a lynch atmosphere was developed only illegal and confusion can grow up."

"While the democratic steps taken in the way through the EU have not been reflected to the practice, the rights granted on the papers are desired to be taken back with the new 'Anti-Terror Law'. The limitations posed in the name of security can not solve the problems. If they insist on the new law limiting our democratic rights, we will not keep silent." said Demirtaş.
