COURT: Asbo for 'lewd
comments' man
A FAILED asylum seeker who made inappropriate
remarks to two schoolgirls has been banned from
approaching girls under 15 years of age.
Mahdi Mohammed (25), from Orton Goldhay,
Peterborough, was given an anti-social behaviour
order (Asbo) preventing him from approaching young
girls for five years at Peterborough Crown Court,
yesterday.
Mohammed, an Iraqi Kurd, initially faced charges of
affray and inciting two girls under 13 to engage in
sexual activity, but those were dropped after a
psychological report was carried out. |

Instead, the prosecution accepted a guilty plea to a
public order offence of insulting behaviour after it
was argued that Mohammed suffered from problems with
language and a "very traumatic event" in his past.
Tim Brown, prosecuting, said the incident with the
girls involved Mohammed making lewd remarks to the
two "very young children".
He said: "There was an incident in which Mr Mohammed
did say something to the girls that was
inappropriate."
Mr Brown also told Peterborough Crown Court that
Mohammed's application for asylum had been refused
and he will be returned to his country.
Angela Rafferty, defending, said that Mohammed
claimed he was commenting on the behaviour of the
girls. But, she added: "He accepts he shouldn't have
said that to a child."
Both defence and prosecution agreed that he needed
help from a psychiatrist as part of a community
rehabilitation order.
Judge Nicholas Coleman decided to release Mohammed
on conditional bail so that a pre-sentence report
can be drawn up.
But he agreed to slap the Asbo on Mohammed to
prevent a repeat of the language he used against the
two girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on
August 31, last year.
Mohammed is banned from approaching, contacting or
entering into a conversation with the two victims in
the case.
He is also banned from similar behaviour with any
other girl under 15 for any unlawful purpose.
Mohammed was told that he faces jail if he breaches
the Asbo.
Judge Coleman added that if the victims approached
him and tried to engage him in conversation, he
should turn away and report the matter to the
police.
Mohammed was told to return to the court on October
14 for sentence.
