Japanese premiere at the
Iwanami Hall Cinema in Tokyo on September 17
TEHRAN, Sept. 14 - The award-winning film
"Turtles Can Fly" directed by director Bahmen
Ghobadi a Kurd from Kurdistan-Iran will have its
Japanese premiere at the Iwanami Hall Cinema in
Tokyo on September 17, IRNA reported on Wednesday.
The movie was also screened at the Tokyo Filmex Film
Festival last year, where it was warmly welcomed.
"Turtles Can Fly" won the Golden Shell and the Jury
Award for best screenplay at the 52nd San Sebastian
Film Festival last year. It also took home the
Silver Hugo of the 40th Chicago Film Festival in
2004 and was the Iranian entry in the category of
Best Foreign Language Film at the 77th Annual
Academy Awards.
The audience's best choice award was also presented
to the film at the Melbourne International Film
Festival.
"Turtles Can Fly" tells the story of people from a
village in Iraqi Kurdistan bordering Iran and Turkey
Ghobadi's "A Time for Drunken Horses" has also been
screened in Japan.
