Iraqi
National Assembly deputy Dr. Mahmoud Osman claimed
Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Namik Tan’s
statement of “We do not recognize a region like
Kurdistan,” was an interference in Iraq’s internal
affairs.
Regarding Tan’s statement on Saturday, Osman accused
Turkey of “interfering in Iraq’s internal affairs
and fearing the spread of democracy.” In a statement
to al-Hayat newspaper, Osman said Northern Iraq is a
region, not a state, therefore it can not be
recognized. |

Osman said Iraq will determine the identity and name
of Iraq, and Turkey cannot interfere in this.
Commenting on Tan’s remarks about Kerkuk (Kirkuk),
Osman said, “The Kirkuk issue is related with Iraq’s
internal affairs. Iraqi government has given a
decision about this issue, which all parties agree.”
