Dr. Barham Saleh: The federation protects Kurds from tyranny 5.9.2005

Baghdad – Dr. Barham Saleh, minister of planning and development cooperation and a distinguished member of the Kurdistani bloc, confirmed that the constitution document represents the harmony among the disagreeing parties in the constitutional committee, which has adopted various opinions.

In an interview with Saudi Arabia's Al Watan Newspaper, Saleh pointed out that the approval of the principle of the federation came upon specified criteria.

Dr. Barham Saleh, Iraqi planning minister and member of the Kurdistani National Union.

He confirmed the special situation of Kurdistan's federation and that it protects the Kurds against tyranny. He pointed out that the creation of the regions would rely on the coming National Assembly, which would have to issue a law that regulates the issue of regions within the federal framework.

As regards some of the worries on the political arena that the federation would lead the country to division, Saleh said, "Iraq is a diverse country and the former regime and the regimes before it have established the sectarian and national approach, which divided the community.

If you talked to any Kurd, he would be worried about the future of the political situation in Iraq; would tyranny be back or not?"
