NEW YORK Despite
the latest violence to rock his country, Iraq's
president remains determined to have a democracy.
President Jalal Talabani told the World Leaders
Forum at Columbia University in New York City that
"we will never surrender to the terrorists who
despise democracy and distort religion. Never."
Talabani says he expects the draft constitution that
Iraqis vote on next month will be passed. He said
they'll always seek compromises, but those who take
part in the political process must choose between
bullets and ballots. |
