U.S. President
George W. Bush will host his Iraqi counterpart Jalal
Talabani at the White House next week for talks on
the status of the draft Iraqi constitution and the
war on terror.
A White House spokesman, Scott McClellan, said the
two leaders will also discuss on 13 September Iraq's
achievements in building a democratic state and
plans for a referendum in October and national
elections in December.
The text of the charter was adopted by the Iraqi
parliament last month. However many Sunni Arab
leaders have vowed to work for its rejection in a
referendum due by 15 October.
After Washington, Talabani is due to travel to New
York to attend a meeting at the United Nations.
