Hoshiyar Zebari, Iraqi foreign affairs minister, confirmed the situation of the Iraqi government, which is rejecting and condemning any statements that target the Arab or Islamic identity of Iraq.

In a speech, Zebari pointed out that the decision to suspend the membership of Iraq in the Arab League based on the statements of the Secretary-General Amr Mousa is a comprehensive Arab decision and is not the competence of the Secretary-General by himself.

He added that the Iraqi government has expressed that it is not comfortable with regard to the statements of the Secretary-General of the Arab League, due to their nature and timing, as well, especially as the Iraqi command does not in any way intend to erase the Arab or Islamic identity of Iraq. Iraq has been destined to survive and mingle with its Arab and Islamic surroundings.

Nevertheless, these statements, which have aroused extreme reactions in the Iraqi street, have been considered as a sort of interference in an Iraqi local issue at an inappropriate time.
