MADRID, Aug 18 (AFP) - 14h45 - A man sought in
Turkey for belonging to the outlawed Kurdistan
Workers Party (PKK) has been arrested on the Spanish
island of Mallorca, the civil guard there said
Thursday.
Named as Fikret K. and described as a Turkish
citizen holding Belgian travel documents, he was
under an international arrest warrant for membership
in the PKK, which Ankara, the United States and the
European Union consider a terrorist organization.
Turkish prosecutors say he is an "active member" of
the PKK, for which he was sentenced in absentia to
12 and a half years in prison.
He was arrested Wednesday in a hotel in the town of
Lluchmayor while civil guardsmen were carrying out
an operation to bolster security for tourists, a
spokesman said.
