Turkey is preparing for sending a diplomatic
memorandum to Iraq, where it sees a crucial threat
against the unity of Turkish lands. In the
memorandum, turkey is reminding Iraq of its pledges
and responsibilities, which are represented in
overcoming and preventing terrorist sneaking from
the north to Turkish lands, in a step that prepares
for the possibility of the penetration of Turkish
army in the north of Iraq (KURDISTAN) .
According to Turkey's Watan Newspaper, Ankara
decided to register the first diplomatic memorandum
to the new Iraqi government in the UN records, to be
a witness that turkey has reminded Iraq of its
responsibilities towards turkey as a neighbor.
The memorandum includes inviting Baghdad to take the
necessary procedures or the surveillance and control
of borders and stopping the sneaking of terrorists
and their transportation of explosives from the
north of Iraq into Turkey. The newspaper quoted
knowledgeable officials saying that from this
memorandum, Ankara aims at preparing for a legal
ground that legitimize the warnings issued by the
2nd Army Chief of Staff, Ilkar Bashbaugh, earlier.
He threatened of penetrating into the north of Iraq
in case Iraq does not fulfill its promises in the
surveillance and control of the borders. Ankara also
aims at making the UN as a witness that Turkey did
what it could do, on the diplomatic level and that
it only has the military alternative.
The newspaper said that Ankara is waiting for a
response to its memorandum from Baghdad, and
therefore it gradually ads more pressure on Iraq. In
case Iraq fails in taking the necessary procedures,
Turkey would request for the penetration into the
north of Iraq. In case Iraq refused, Turkey would
make use of the UN Article no. 51, which
internationally allows for the legitimate right for
defending itself.
