Weapons cache found
at Kirkuk election Center

Iraqi police found a weapons cache hidden at one of
the electoral centers in Kirkuk. The North Iraq
media team said the cache contained new, clean, and
unused weapons wrapped in clothing. There were
mortar rounds, two rocket launchers, a pistol, and
an ammunition belt. The police took the items to the
joint collaboration office at the governorate
headquarters. The elections committee has opened 25
electoral centers in Kirkuk.

Barzani Surivives Assassination Attempt

Kurdish security elements said that Iraqi Kurdistan
President Massoud Barzani has survived an
assassination attempt. The sources added they
arrested some elements attached to Ansar al-Islam
for being involved in the attempt. Kurdish security
said the attackers succeeded in infiltrating the
Salahiddin resort, the headquarters of Barzani, to
set their plan for killing him. Some of the involved
elements are prominent members of the Kurdistan
Democratic Party headed by Barzani.

PM Spokesman Defends Death Penalty
(Al-Mashriq)
Laith Kubba, spokesman for the prime minister, has
defended the Iraqi government decision to reactivate
the death penalty. In a press conference, Kubba said
he understands the stance of the humanitarian
organizations to stop applying the death penalty
sentence, but he added that Iraq has lost more than
20,000 people to the insurgents who don't understand
anything except for killing. He said they have to be
punished with the utmost punishment.

Syria Ready to Help in Rebuilding Iraq

Receiving the Iraqi Transport Minister Salam al-Maliki,
Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Naji Itri said his
country is ready to help in the rebuilding of Iraq.
Itri also said Syria cares about the security and
stability of Iraq, adding his country is ready to
aid Iraq on different levels in rebuilding its
infrastructure. The Iraqi minister met Itri and
negotiated the issue of exchanging flights between
the two countries, along with other important future
issues.
