Federalism Dominates
Constitution Talks
(Addaawa)
Lawmaker Mariam al-Rayyes said the issue of
federalism dominated the meetings of the political
blocs with the presidency board. They agreed that
every two provinces would form a region with the
same authorities of the Kurdistan region. The other
issues of language, distribution of resources, and
the representation of women in the parliament were
discussed, too. They agreed not to allow leading
officials to hold a second citizenship, as well as
the leaders of the security offices. There might be
an agreement about increasing the women
representation to more than 25 percent.

Prime Minister Meets Sunni Group
(Al-Sabah)
Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Ja'afari met with the
National Dialogue Council to discuss the drafting of
the constitution within the new deadline of August
22. Council member Iyad al-Samarrai said their
meeting with the prime minister was very important
because he spared them enough time to negotiate with
him about the issues of disagreements that caused
the delay of presenting the constitution on August
15. He added that the meeting will positively affect
the drafting of the constitution.
