Talabani meets with
PUK political bureau
(Al-Ittihad)
President Jalal Talabani and the political bureau of
the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan held a meeting in
Baghdad. The president talked about his optimism
about solving the disagreements to finish the
drafting of the constitution. He said he was
satisfied that the Kurdish community believes that
he is trying his best to have the Kurdish rights and
achievements written in the constitution as reward
for the sacrifices of the people and their
democratic experience in the region.

Former Minister Says Kissinger Proposed
Federalism
(Al-Mashriq)
Malik Doohan al-Hassan, former justice minister in
the Iyad Allawi government, said the notion of
federalism belongs to the former American U.S.
Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who proposed to
split Iraq into four or three federal regions. Al-Hassan
was astonished by Shia requests for federalism,
adding that all the Iraqi people suffered from the
oppression and tyranny of Saddam Hussein.

Lawyer: Tariq Aziz Ready to Face Trial
(Al-Mutamar)
Badee Arif, the lawyer for Tariq Aziz, announced the
readiness of Aziz to be tried by the special
criminal court. But he said Aziz is not ready to be
a witness against the former regime's officials. He
added that Aziz asked for clarification on the
accusations against him and that he is ready to face
them. Aziz asked to know the names of the judges and
said the trial should be held in the presence of his
local and foreign lawyers.

Industry Ministry Faces Power Outages
(Al-Mada)
A source at the Ministry of Industry said the
ministry suffers from electricity outages due to
technical reason in the power unit that feeds the
ministry. He added that the ministry will be
evacuated until the end of the week when technicians
can repair the defect. The ministry headquarters is
still under rehabilitation after the destruction it
witnessed through the last war.
