Barzani Criticizes
Elections Commission

Iraqi Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani accused
the electoral commission of having bad intentions
against the Kurds. The two main parties in Kurdistan
have called the members of the Kurdish Aliiance list
to return to Kurdistan. Barzani rejects any
constitution that does not preserve all Kurdish
rights, and asked the Arabs to accept them as there
is no possibility for bargaining. He reiterated that
it's the rights of the Kurds to apply Article 58 of
the interim law, and to have natural resources,
federalism, and special laws for the Kurdistan
region.

Talabani Meets New Sunni Endowment Leader
(Baghdad)
President Jalal Talabani said it is necessary to
have the Sunni clerical leadership for the Sunnis in
this critical era of Iraq. Receiving the new head of
the Sunni Endowment Ahmed Abdul Ghafoor al-Samarrai,
Talabani said he is against violating Sunni rights
and affirmed the compatibility among the Iraqi
spectrums. He asked that the Sunnis adopt severe
procedures against terrorism and all criminal acts.
Al-Samarrai condemned the terrorist attacks that
target innocent people.

Elections Commission Asked to Begin Work on
Referendum

Hachim al-Hasani, head of the National Assembly, has
asked members of the legal committee at the
elections commission to activate the collaboration
regarding the law on the referendum and the coming
elections. He also asked them to organize the
elections of the provincial and municipal councils.
He asked them to work hard for providing the
requirements of the electoral process in Iraq,
especially in places that did not participate in the
previous elections. The members of the commission
asked the National Assembly to prepare the proper
atmospheres to have them better achieve their tasks.

Security Measures at Electoral Centers in Place
(Al-Sabah al-Jadeed)
The media office of the Interior Ministry has issued
a declaration affirming the completion of security
procedures needed to protect the electoral centers
that will be opened to the people on Wednesday. The
staff of the ministry and the directorates attached
to it are ready to resume their duties in protecting
the electoral centers for voter registration. A
source at the high electoral commission said they
received telephone calls from the people in
appreciation of the procedures taken by the
electoral commission to facilitate the process of
the election.

Interior Ministry Fires 200 Officers
(Al-Mutamar)
The Inteiror Ministry has fired 200 high-ranking
officers. Informed sources at the ministry said that
the minister decided to fire those officers brought
to the ministry by former Minister Falah al-Nakeeb
because they were former officers of the dissolved
offices of intelligence and security. The sources
added that the Minister Bayan Jabour is unwilling to
have them among the staff of the ministry because
they are from the former regime.

Sadr Urges Restraint In Dealing with Kuwaiti
Border Issue

The young Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has called on
people not to politicize the border problems with
Kuwait, and said he rejects any violation of Iraqi
soil. Upon receiving a Shia delegation from Um Qasr
city, he urged them to display self control, to have
patience, and to treat the issue peacefully and
legally. He asked them not to exploit this problem
for personal or media interests, and added he is
against giving even 1 cm from Iraqi soil to Kuwait.

Iraqi Airways Flies to Istanbul
(Al-Mada)
Iraqi Air ways launched its first flight to Istanbul
today after long years of stoppage. Transport
Minister Salam al-Maliki said the ministry has set
up a plan to activate the companies attached to the
ministry and that Iraqi Airways is trying hard to
return to its past activities. After this flight,
the company might add another flight to Europe, the
minister said.
