Baghdad - The
Iraqi government refused to comment on the news of
the possibility of releasing the former Prime
Minister of the former regime Tareq Aziz and Baathi
leaders under arrest.
News media have noted that the Americans have
prepared an 'initiative' to release Tareq aziz and a
number of Baathi leaders, with the knowledge of the
President Jalal Talebani, Masud Barzani, president
of Kurdistan region, and the head of the former
government Iyad Allawi. |

Ali Al Adhadh, distinguished leader in the Supreme
Council of the Islamic revolution said, "The
American objective of such a bargain is to create a
Baathi command under the supervision of historical
identities of the former regime." He added, "The
Americans believe that releasing Tareq Aziz and
others would put an end to the military operations."
He added, "The bargain includes appointing Tareq
Aziz to conduct contacts with Baathi leaders inside
and outside Iraq, as he and other historical leaders
can convince a wing of Baath to refrain from armed
struggle and supporting terrorist organizations
coming from abroad."
He continued, "The strategic concern of the
Americans is appointing Baathi leaders that would
join the current political process in the country,
in return for providing with information about Al
Qaeda organization."
Nevertheless, Al Adhadh confirmed, "The Shiite
religious forces that fought against the former
regime would not accept such a bargain," despite the
fact that "a great portion of the Arab Sunnis
believe that the return of Baathis under another
formation and a mentality different from Saddam
Hussein's is a guarantee for the return of their
weight in power." Al Adhadh has expressed his
skepticism in the actual capability of Tareq Aziz in
"leading the dialogue with the armed wing of Al
Baath or convincing the political wing, which is
financing the gunmen, to accept the negotiations
with the Americans and enter the political process,
due to his illness and that he does not enjoy
clannish or regional background, which is necessary
for the negotiation process. In addition, his family
is pushing him to quit the political work and live
abroad, away from the complications of the
situation."
