IRBIL, Aug 14 (KUNA) -- Thousands of Kurds
staged peaceful rallies in three cities in northern
Iraq Sunday demanding their rights to be confirmed
in the constitution, including the right of
self-determination.
The rallies, organized by the non-government
organization (NGO) Referendum Movement, called for
confirming the demarcation of Kurdistan borders,
distribution of natural resources, the fate of the
Peshmergas militias and Kirkuk.
The rallies were held in Irbil, Suleimania and Dahuk.
The demonstrators, carrying Kurdistan flags, urged
the United Nations to send a commission to Kurdistan
to hold a referendum on self-determination.
Organizers said the rallies aimed at backing the
Kurdish delegation in Baghdad to give the Kurds the
right of determining their fate.
