Erbil - Hundreds of Kurds in the city of Erbil
(350 km north of Baghdad) have demonstrated,
demanding for stating their rights in the permanent
Iraqi constitution, according to AFP correspondent.
Demonstrators have gathered in front of the National
Council of Iraqi Kurdistan, carrying Kurdish fags
and signs that read "Oh, Ja'fari…Stop", "Kirkuk is
Kurdistani", "We do not accept a constitution that
does not include all our rights", and "The
Bishmarkas would remain"
The demonstrators called for speeding up the
application of Article 58 of the state
administration code for the interim period (which
was set by the interim governing council in 2004)
and states the normalization of conditions in the
city of Kirkuk through returning the displaced Kurds
during the Iraqi former regime and returning the
immigrant Arabs to their original regions.
The demonstration was organized by the Kurdistani
Democratic Youth Union, which is a vocational
organization, under the Kurdistani Democratic Party,
headed by Masud Barzani, president of Iraqi
Kurdistan region.
In a speech delivered before the president of
Kurdistani parliament Adnan Al Mufti, Najat Babier,
secretary of the Kurdistani Democratic Youth Union
said, "We demand the speeding up of drafting the
permanent constitution of the country and stating
the comprehensive rights of the Kurds." He added,
"We also demand for the application of Article 58 of
the state administration code, and returning Kirkuk
to Iraqi Kurdistan region."
