ERBIL, (KUNA) - President of Kurdistan region
Massoud Barazani said Thursday that Kurds have had
the right to demand independence in the appropriate
time, stressing that, at this time, Kurds have been
preoccupied with establishing a federal democratic
Iraq.
Barazani's statement came in a joint press
conference with former Iraqi premier Eyad Allawi and
US Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad in Salaheddin
resort near the northern Iraqi city of Irbil. |

The Kurdish President said that the Kurdish
parliament has decided to preserve Kurds' rights
within an Iraqi constitution, insisting that Kurds
sustain the right to demand independence in the
right time.
"We (Kurds) insist that the coming constitution
include no less than what came in the interim Iraqi
laws regarding Kurdistan's people," he added,
expressing willingness to participate in the
meetings concerning the constitution drafting in
Baghdad.
From his side, Allawi said "I can assert that we
agree with our Kurdish brothers regarding Kurdistan
and the federation." The US Ambassador visited
Kirkuk, Sulaimaniya and Halabja yesterday. He
arrived today in Salaheddin resort, accompanied by
Allawi, Iraqi Deputy Premier Roz Shawis and Iraqi
Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari.
