Death Hunger Strike commemorated in Kurdistan

Turkey-Kurdistan, July 15 - The PKK martyrs of July 14, 1982 Death Hunger Strike in the Diyarbakir Military Prison were commemorated by the people in Kurdistan.

The PKK martyrs M. Hayri Durmus, Kemal Pir, Akif Yilmaz and Ali Çiçek were commemorated in ceremonies all over Turkey and northern Kurdistan (southeastern Turkey).

PKK members M. Hayri Durmus, Kemal Pir, Akif Yilmaz and Ali Çiçek started a death hunger strike on July 14, 1982 in the Diyarbakir Military Prison to protest against the oppression of the Kurdish people and the torturing of political prisoners in the prison.

Kemal Pir was martyred on September 7, 1982 (56 days). M. Hayri Durmus on September 12 (61 days), Akif Yilmaz on September 15 (64 days) and Ali Çiçek on September 17 (66 days).

Kurdish youth takes over the streets of Van

Turkey-Kurdistan, July 15 - Hundreds of militant Kurdish youth protested against the isolation of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan in the city of Van in northern Kurdistan.

The Kurdish youth gathered on July 13 in the Hacibekir district and lit up fires at three different places in the district. The protesters carried posters of Ocalan and the flag of the Kurdistan Democratic Confederation. Slogans as 'Long live leader Apo', 'You won't live in a world without Ocalan' and 'Broker of peace is in Imrali' were shouted by the group.

Local official sources stated that Turkish police didn't interfere in fear of clashes with the youth.

Istanbul, July 15 -(DIHA) - Protesting the attack done by the faceless people as a result of which 4 people were wounded in Mustafa Kemal Neighborhood, the dwellers held a protest demonstration with marching and dancing.

Yesterday, the members of M. Kemal Development Club mounting a campaign calling for ' Look after your culture against degeneration' were attacked by 30 people with guns and knives in Mustafa Kemal Neighborhood, Umraniye. Upon this, nearly 400 dwellers of the neighborhood gathered in The Central Street (Merkez Caddesi) and protested the events. Holding a demonstration, they shouted slogans such as: ' 1 May neighborhood will be grave for the gangs.', 'The gangs will give account to the public,', ' We do not want any glue- snifters in 1 May neighborhood.', and ' The gangs are led by the state.' Moreover they carried placards saying ' Look after your culture against degeneration' and 'Stop the provocations in 1May neighborhood.' and called the attention to the fact that how dope, gang, prostitution and degeneration destroy the human beings. Marching until the bus stations of the Central Street, they shouted marches and acted folk dances here. Through the marching the other dwellers of the neighborhood gave support to them with applauses and whistles.

Demonstration with molotovs
To the group political parties and democratic civil associations such as The Socialist Platform of Opposed People (ESP), The Platform of Democratic Rights (DHP), Socialist Solidarity Platform (SODAP), Democratic People's Party (DEHAP), Köz, War Road, Rights and Freedom Front (HÖC) and Effort (Alınteri) joined. After the demonstration a masked group blocked the way to the traffic with molotovs and shouted slogans such as 'The gangs will give account to the public' and ' We paid and will make them pay'. Waiting for 15 minutes on the road, they scattered among the streets.
