'Undispatched Letters' in the prison not on the scene
(Source: DIHA)
DIYARBAKIR
-Kurdistan-Turkey - An unusual event reminding the film 'Undispatched Letters' acted by Türkan Soray and Kadir Inanir, is being experienced in the E Type Prisons of Elbistan and Malatya.
121 letters were not given to Murat Eser (32) sentenced to life imprisonment although they were marked as 'seen' by the prison directorate. The letters in question were ruined and sent back to his family.

The events are taking place between Elbistan-Malatya. The letters were sent in 2002 and 2003 while he was in the prison but were not given to Murat Eser and the case appeared when his father visited him. Coming to the prison to see his son, the father Hüseyin Eser (53) was given the letters back. Then the father went to Diyarbakir Human Rights Association and consulted for help.

What might be the problem with the letters sent by the father to the son'
After he received the letters which were ruined and marked as 'seen' he was very surprised. He said all the letters were sent by the family or the relatives 17 of which were belong to him and protest the case saying what might be the objection to the letters sent by a retired teacher to his son.

Letters are vital for political detainees
He said the son was not informed by the directorate and said their freedom of speech was restricted then added "Communication is a need like water and bread. Letters are vital for political detainee. If a detainee was restricted to see his family that means one of his vital points is cut off. I condemn the directorate for their incorrect behavior in those days in which we are trying to join EU."

HRA: We will apply for crime detection
The secretary of Diyarbakir Branch of HRA, Ali Akıncı claimed the case as illegal and said: " The communication freedom can not be restrained in anywhere in the world. If there had been any chargeable offence in the letters the directorate could have applied for crime detection. We will apply for the officials who behaved in an anti-democratic way by not giving the letters to the detainees.

Execution Directorate: There may be a mistake
An authorized member from the execution directorate of the prison, Katip Ahmet said "We do not give illegal letters to the detainees and we inform them about that. There may be a mistake done in this case. If there is not any illegal problem, it is a mistake"
